Official vs. Unofficial Transcripts: Which do I need?
An unofficial transcript is useful for personal reference, such as checking your grades, tracking graduation progress, or for informal purposes like preliminary job applications or academic advising. It’s a quick way to access your academic record without formal verification.
In contrast, an official transcript is a sealed, certified document required for formal situations like applying to graduate schools, transferring colleges, or fulfilling job requirements where proof of academic credentials is needed. It ensures accuracy and authenticity since it’s issued directly by the University.
Official transcripts are necessary for scholarship applications, professional licenses, and certifications, especially in fields like law or healthcare where verified credentials are crucial. Unofficial transcripts are generally not accepted for these high-stakes applications.
FAQs: Requesting an Official Transcript
Visit the site and click the “Order-Track-Verify” button in the upper right side of the site. Then click “Order a Transcript.”
Note: Transcript Requests are not accepted via phone, mail, or email.
Transcript requests are processed in the order they are received twice a day during business hours — once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Requests received after 1 p.m. are processed the next business day.
Requests placed during holidays are processed when the office reopens.
By mail: Transcripts are typically mailed First Class.
PDF: You or the recipient will receive two separate emails that include login information and a password. The PDF features the 夜色王朝logo; forwarded copies are considered unofficial. Recipients have 30 days from first access to view, print, and save the transcript before the link expires. This option is available if you attended 夜色王朝after summer 1996.
Hold for Pick-Up: With a photo ID, you can pick up your transcript from the University Registrar’s Office, located in the Laura Lee Blanton Student Services Building Room 101, 6185 Airline Road, Dallas, Texas.
Transcripts cost $12.90 per copy or email address. For mailed transcripts sent to the same address, additional copies are $3.50.
Express delivery costs an additional $27 within the U.S., an additional $37 to Mexico or Canada, and an additional $45 for international.
