Enrollment steps

For continuing students, enrollment begins on March 31, and availability is based on seniority:

  • 8 a.m.: Seniors (90+ earned hours) and graduate students
  • 10 a.m.: Juniors (60-89 earned hours)
  • Noon: All other undergraduate students

* Note: Earned hours are completed/graded hours.

Open enrollment begins at noon April 9 for summer visiting students (non-degree), new and readmitted students and continuing non-degree students. New undergraduate students (first-year and transfer) must complete all health center requirements, including Meningitis A vaccination, and meet with an Academic Advisor before being eligible to enroll in courses.

  1. All undergraduate students must meet with an academic adviser prior to enrolling for assistance in planning majors and minors and scheduling courses that will count towards graduation requirements. Failure to meet with the academic adviser prior to enrolling may result in sanctions. Note: Students have the final responsibility for the accuracy of their enrollment, the applicability of their courses towards their degree requirements, and their academic performance.
  2. Check your Student Dashboard on for your enrollment appointment time and for any holds or tasks that need to be cleared before enrollment. Some financial holds may not be updated for 24 hours.
  3. Students must provide a home and local mailing address, cell number and/or home phone number, and emergency contact. International students must provide a home, U.S. mailing and residence address. Missing information will result in a hold being placed. To update parent records, email records@smu.edu.
  4. While in my.SMU, look for course availability by clicking Class Information, then Advanced or Simple Class Search. (You may need to consult your specific curriculum when choosing courses.)
