Getting In at SMU

Assistant Director of Admissions Brenda Del Rio and Student Ambassador Korey Vita walk you through what you need to know about applications, deadlines, test scores, and everything else about applying to SMU.

鉃★笍 Step 1: Decide which application method is right for you.

  • means more straightforward communication with the admissions office, potentially leading to quicker responses to any questions or concerns.
  • simplifies the application process by allowing students to submit a single application to multiple institutions, including SMU.
  • is a popular application platform for Texas residents applying to colleges and universities within the state, with information and resources specific to Texas students.
  • encourages students to showcase their achievements in a more comprehensive way. It provides resources to help students, especially those from underrepresented groups,  complete their applications effectively.
  • is for students who have applied to 夜色王朝within the last two years but did not enroll or withdrew before the 12th day of classes.

鉃★笍 Step 2: Review and complete the application checklist.

  1. Complete your application on time; check the application deadlines below.
  2. Submit official college transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities, including dual credit and international coursework. For international coursework, you must also submit a professional evaluation that shows the U.S. equivalence for each educational credential and the credit and grade equivalents for university-level courses. When selecting the type of evaluation, choose a Course-by-Course evaluation.
  3. Submit an official high school transcript that includes a graduation date or GED.
  4. (Optional) Submit official SAT or ACT scores (only if you transfer with less than 24 credit hours).
  5. (Optional) Submit an extracurricular résumé, personal essay, and letters of recommendation as part of your application or send them by email to transfer@smu.edu (encouraged for scholarship consideration).
For international students
  • If your high school transcript is not in English, it will need to be translated.
  • Submit official TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test (DET) results if two college-level English courses have not been completed with a B or higher.
  • We highly encourage an  if English is not your first language, but it is not required.
