I’ve accepted Spring Entry. What opportunities can I pursue in the fall?

Congratulations! While you prepare to join us on the Hilltop in the spring, there are a number of different ways to customize your fall term — from taking courses at another institution or exploring our international partners to taking a gap semester.

Domestic study

Get a jump-start on college credits by taking courses at a community college or as a visiting student at another four-year university.

If you choose to take courses at another four-year university, we encourage you to enroll in a visiting student or continuing education program rather than as a degree-seeking student. As a visiting student, you can take undergraduate courses for credit that can be applied to your 夜色王朝degree.

If you enroll at another college or university prior to starting at SMU, it is important to remember that your offer of admission is contingent on your earning above a 2.5 transferable GPA.

International study

夜色王朝partners with two international universities: Franklin University Switzerland and Richmond, the American International University in London. Students are able to complete their fall semester overseas while enjoying new cultures and meeting peers from around the world. Or you can embark on a global experience at one of four international study centers with Verto Education.

Franklin University Switzerland is located on a hillside above Lugano, Switzerland, in the country’s most southernmost Italian speaking canton. Small class sizes, individual attention, and cross-cultural perspectives are hallmarks of the Franklin experience.

Program Highlights:

  • Select from Franklin courses that have been reviewed for transferability and degree applicability towards an 夜色王朝degree.
  • All Franklin students participate in the required Academic Travel Program, a credit-bearing course that includes two weeks of faculty-led travel each semester as an extension of classwork.
  • There are many activities, including academic, social and athletic events as well as a variety of clubs (including a Texas Club for those with ties to Texas).
  • Lugano’s moderate climate provides ample opportunity for outdoor activities such as the Valle Verzasca trip, where incoming students picnic and hike in the Swiss Alps for a day.

Know before you go

SIS is a great program for humanities, sciences, English and business students. This program is not compatible with STEM, pre-health engineering and performing arts tracks due to the lack of lab science classes available at Franklin.

Please note that while financial aid and scholarships are not available for the SIS program through SMU, Franklin University Switzerland does review applications for possible leadership scholarship opportunities up to $5,000. For more information on tuition and fees, please visit .

SIS Requirements

At Richmond University, students can choose from hundreds of classes that will  transfer to SMU. Students also can experience the historical and cultural treasures that surround the university, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum and Kensington Palace.

Program Highlights:

  • Select from Richmond courses that have been reviewed for transferability and degree applicability towards an 夜色王朝degree.
  • Meet students from all over the world. About 70% come from the United Kingdom and other countries worldwide.
  • Richmond students have access to discounted (and sometimes free) tickets for West End shows, sporting matches, London Fashion Week, comedy nights, music events and more.
  • There are also campus events that take place throughout the year.

Know before you go

LIS is a wonderful program for students interested in studying liberal arts and business studies. Students interested in taking business classes must complete the math placement exam. LIS is not available for students interested in STEM or pre-health tracks due to the lack of lab science classes available at Richmond.

Join a cohort of other spring entry students spending their fall term studying abroad with Verto Education. Embark on a global experience at one of four international study centers on your path to enrollment at SMU.

Gap semester

Taking a break between high school and college is becoming a popular choice around the world. Check with your high school counseling office for resources to engage in a meaningful gap semester experience.

Paths to picking up valuable experiences during a gap semester include community service, cultural exchange, internships or jobs, developing trade skills or traveling.
