Request a Residency Exemption

After you complete your housing application, you will be able to request an Exemption on the .

Request a Roommate

Roommate requests are submitted in your housing application during Housing Reapplication on the 夜色王朝Housing Portal. Here's how to request a change on your application. 

  • If you need to drop a requested roommate, please email your roommate and copy housing@smu.edu to let them know you wish to withdraw as a requested roommate.
  • If you wish to add a new roommate request, please email housing@smu.edu for instructions.

Request to Cancel Housing Application

  • Not returning to 夜色王朝next year? Please email us and contact the office of Student Success & Retention to complete a Leave of Absence/Formal Exit request.
  • Cancelling to go off-campus? Required students may complete the Exemption Request on the portal prior to April 1. Non-required students may complete the Cancellation form on the 夜色王朝Housing portal or email us. Cancellation penalties apply after April 1.
  • Going on Study Abroad? Please email us to let us know!

Request a Room Change

Room change requests during the year begin the second week of class each semester. RCDs process room change requests as space permits.  See further information under Application and Assignment.

Join a Waitlist

Waiting lists are available for returning students for 2024-25 starting in late March on the 夜色王朝Housing Portal. See more information under Application and Assignment.

Breaks and Late Stay Requests

  • Winter Break requests may be made on the 夜色王朝Housing portal from November 1-December 1.
  • Requests to stay after Spring closing in May are available on the 夜色王朝Housing portal April 1-May 1. 

Lofts

Many students like to maximize their usable space in their room by lofting their bed. A loft is a bed that is raised so that a student may place their desk or other furniture underneath to maximize space.

Residents may request a loft at the beginning of the academic year or after a room change. All requests are made in the . One request is permitted each academic year. Please note that we do not have lofts available during summer terms.

Dates

  • For the fall semester, the loft request process opens in the summer and closes on July 31.
  • For new spring residents, the loft process closes on January 1.
  • After a room change, students receive information about making a loft request within five days of the move.

How to request a loft

  1. Log into the , and select Loft from the menu.
  2. Select the loft height option desired.
  3. Read and electronically sign the Release of Liability and Hold Harmless agreement.
