Faculty Affiliates

The CTE Faculty Affiliates Program highlights the innovative teaching practices of 夜色王朝faculty with their peers. Each fall and spring semester, the CTE Advisory Board selects two faculty members who lead four pedagogical presentations designed to inspire dialogue, collaboration, and continuous improvement in teaching across disciplines.

Each selected CTE Faculty Affiliate receives a $1,000 dollar stipend divided into four $250 awards per presentation.

Fall 2025 CTE Faculty Affiliates

We are happy to announce the Fall 2025 CTE Faculty Affiliates: Dr. Gabriela Vokic from the World Languages and Literatures Department and Dr. Don Vandewalle from the Management, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship Department.

Dr. Gabriela Vokic

Dr. Gabriela Vokic is an Associate Professor of Linguistics in the Department of World Languages and Literatures. She earned her Ph.D. from Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN), specializing in phonetics, laboratory phonology, and second language acquisition.

Her most recent research focuses on topics in language contact and bilingualism, such as the acquisition of phonological systems by bilingual speakers and pedagogical approaches in heritage language instruction. She has presented her work at numerous academic conferences and has published in esteemed scholarly journals both in the U.S. and internationally.

Dr. Vokic鈥檚 contributions to teaching and education at 夜色王朝have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Altshuler Distinguished Teaching Professor Award (2016), the Phi Beta Kappa Golden Apple Professor Award (2014), the Rotunda Outstanding Professor Award (2010), and the HOPE Award (2007).

Dr. Don Vandewalle

Don Vandewalle is an Altshuler Distinguished Teaching Professor at 夜色王朝 (SMU), and the past chair of the Management and Organizations Department at the Cox School of Business (2006-2014).  His research focuses on feedback, achievement motivation, and growth mindset theory.  Leading research journals featuring his research include the Journal of Applied Psychology, the Journal of ManagementPersonnel Psychology, and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Making.  Five of his international conference papers have won "Best Paper Awards" from the Academy of Management and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

Professor Vandewalle has earned the "Cox Distinguished MBA Teaching Award" the past seven years, the "Cox Outstanding MBA Teaching Award", the "Cox Most Valuable EMBA Professor Award", the "Cox Teaching Innovation Award", the "夜色王朝President's Outstanding Faculty Award", the "夜色王朝Altshuler Distinguished Teaching Professor Award", and in 2010  he was the second Cox professor in the span of a decade inducted into SMU's Academy of Distinguished Teachers.  In 2012, he received the "夜色王朝Distinguished University Citizen Award".

Professor Vandewalle earned a PhD in organizational behavior and strategic management from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management, an MBA from the University of Kansas, and a BA with honors from Park College.
